Therapies

Helping you achieve emotional and psychological well-being.

Meet Dr. Dixon
Gray Sofa

I believe with the right theoretical or therapeutic approach and tools in place, it is possible to make our problems more manageable, whether its new or ongoing issues.  When engaging in talking therapy we all expect a non-judgmental, supportive space to explore or address, re-visit or understand current issues that are holding you back from achieving your desired happiness and well-being. I will support you on this journey with my knowledge, strength, optimism, support and commitment to you as an individual. I promise to be there for you every step of your journey to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life.

Counselling

Counselling involves talking with an experienced professional to explore specific aspects of your life that are causing problems with the aim of making things better. I base my  services around evidence-based therapies including person-centred,
psychodynamic, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, humanistic and solution-focused therapy.

Therapy is primarily offered one-to-one or face-to-face. Therapy via Zoom or telephone will also be considered but is not typically offered as a first-line approach. As an integrative therapist, I work with each individual in a collaborative way, tailoring my approach to focus on understanding and meeting the needs of each person.

What is the Difference between Psychotherapy & Counselling?
These terms are often used interchangeably. However, counselling is often used to refer to shorter term more focussed work, dealing with a particular issue, whereas psychotherapy or therapy is often used to describe longer term work, which may be more in depth.  Psychotherapy is similar to counselling in that the client works with an experienced professional to address specific issues or difficulties that are causing them distress. Psychotherapy is a deeper process where we explore your narrative and the patterns or themes within it.

Emotional Support & Coaching
Counselling or Psychotherapy isn’t always the most appropriate form of support. Sometimes you just need some time to ‘offload’ for an hour or two, to give yourself some breathing space to carry on. This can be particularly useful in a short-term
crisis or if you are not at the point where you can or need to commit to weekly or fortnightly therapy sessions. It can also be useful if you have already had counselling quite recently and would like a ‘top-up.’ They are a chance to get things off your chest and explore your options.
